1. Rajendra Prasad 

Tenure:-26 January 1950 to 12 May 1962

Description :-

• First president, longest tenure (12 years)
• He was elected twice as the president
• He was also the president of the constituent assembly before being elected for this post.

2. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Tenure:-13 May 1962 – 13 May 1967

Description :-

• He was the first President from South India.Teacher's day is celebrated on 5 Sept. to honour his birthday.
• Radhakrishnan was a prominent philosopher and writer.
• He also held the position of vice-chancellor of the Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.

3.Zakir Hussain

Tenure:-13 May 1967 – 3 May 1969

Description :-

• President with the shortest tenure, first Muslim president to die in harness
• He was the recipient of Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna.
• He was the shortest-serving president and passed away in office.

4.Varahagiri Venkata Giri

Tenure:-3 May 1969 – 20 July 1969 ,24 August 1969 – 24 August 1974

Description :-

• First acting president of India
• He was elected Vice President of India in 1967.
• He served as the president for a short term due to the sudden death of Zakir Hussain in office.

5.Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed

Description :-

• Served as the Chief Justice of India, and was a recipient of the Order of the British Empire.
• He was the president during Emergency.
• He was the second president who died in office.

6.Neelam Sanjiva Reddy

• Youngest to become president  64 yr, the first president who did not become vice -president
• He was the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
• He became the youngest President who occupied Rashtrapati Bhavan and contested twice for the post of president.

• First Sikh President
• He was the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Union Home Minister

8.Ramaswamy Venkataraman

• He is a receiver of “Tamra Patra” for his contributions to India’s freedom struggle.

9.Shankar Dayal Sharma

• He was Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and the Indian Minister for Communications.

10.Kocheril Raman Narayanan

Description :-

• He was the first President from Kerala, and also the first Dalit President.
• He served as India’s ambassador to Thailand, Turkey, China and the United States of America.

• He was the first bachelor/Scientist president of India and the first Muslim President who completed his term.
• He played a leading role in the development of India’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs.
