INCOME TAX INSPECTOR (Job Profile)

1. The debate on which post should be chosen as the first choice has

continued for long. Generally, the top two contenders are Examiner and Income Tax Inspector. But in my opinion, ITI is the best post under SSC-CGL, and should be exercised as the first choice.

2. As lot of stuff is available on internet at different portals regarding ITI,

so this post will have some overlapping content which most of you already

know, plus some new highlights through inputs from my friends whose

names I wont take this time.

3. The post comes under CENTRAL BOARD OF DIRECT TAXES.

4. Comes under the pay band (9300-34800) Grade pay 4600. Gross salary

(without any deductions) at existing DA(17 %)  it varies comes around 60,000+ in Z city

( Same as Assistants with grade pay 4600).

5. But there is a very basic difference b/w ASSISTANTS and INSPECTORS

post. Inspectors(ITI, Customs, Preventive Officer, Examiner) are all

EXECUTIVE posts, while Assistants (CSS, Railways, External Affairs,

others) are all NON-EXECUTIVE posts.

6. Hence, even though ASSISTANT posts are above Upper Division Clerk

in stature, but in government lingo it is seen as a CLERICAL type job.

inspector is an EXECUTIVE one, and hence always better than an Assistant post. 

7. PROMOTIONAL ASPECTS : Income tax Inspector-> Income Tax Officer

(Group B gazetted)-> Assistant Commissioner(Group A, IRS)-> Deputy

Commissioner->Joint Commissioner-> Additional Commissioner->

Commisioner. Promotional aspects are good and fastest, comparable only

to Examiner. In a span of 12-15 years, one reaches the rank of Assistant

Commissioner. When one reaches the level of Assistant Commissioner, a

batch is allotted by UPSC, and one becomes and IRS officer.

8. No Physical test and No uniform. Hence, to secure this lucrative post,

all u need is MARKS.

9. WORK PROFILE : Either an ITI can be posted in Assesment of tax(work

related to tax deduction at source + a part of the raiding party) or non-

assessment (clerical type job)

10. PERKS AND BENEFITS :An ITI is entitled for 30 liter of petrol

(translates into ~Rs. 2200 )if posted on assessment seat.He also gets a

SIM from the department on which all STD calls on every type of BSNL/

MTNL phone are free; and 400 minutes on other phones whether STD or

LOCAL are free for every month. This SIM is provided to every ITI

irrespective of the seat he is posted at.Overall CTC(cost to company)

crosses Rs. 55,000 per month.

11. Now,I have been witness to several instances which I cannot make

public, where I realized the power and stature of ITI. I will leave it upon

the discretion of the readers to judge the power and stature of an ITI ,

and whether they can EARN(if u know what I mean ) or not. Try to

communicate directly with an ITI , and u will get to know. Moreover, u

will have access to REAL INFOMRATION (questions like kitna kama lete

ho monthly , n blah blah) when the person posted as ITI, is ur relative or

a close friend. Because no individual will like to jeopardize his/her career

by parting away with such sensitive information. Just know that u can

EARN( if u know what I mean :)), way above ur actual salary, if u know ur

job.

12. MYTH1 : Heavy work load hota hai, and hence u cannot prepare for

civil services or other higher examinations. –FACT1: The above statement

is a bakwas. Half of the time u r posted on non-assessment (clerical) job

where u have ample time to spare for. Secondly, even when posted as a

part of raiding party, income tax raids are not that frequent. Thus again u

have time to study. And finally, it’s a government job, isliye bahut tarike

hain, time nikaalne ke, u will understand when u r posted as an ITI. .

MYTH2: U cannot survive in the system if u r honest and a person of

impeccable character. –FACT2: The above line is a total nonsense. When

u are posted as an ITI, its completely at your own discretion on how u

wish to work. Yaad rahe, jab tak aapki marji na ho, no one can force

anything upon u. All u have to be is vigilant, and u can work in the WAY

u feel like. . –MYTH3: Once I get home posting, I will remain there for all

the time. –FACT3 : Aisa kuchh nahi hai. Transfers take place within the

zones (a group of states comprise a zone) with time. And once u reach

Assistant Commissioner level , u will have the liability to serve anywhere

in India.

13. FINAL CONVICTION: All the above is based on my empirical research

and communication with actual ITIs , and it’s the best post offered by

SSC-CGL in every aspect. Whether u want faster promotions, or u want to

prepare for higher examination, or u want to EARN(if u know what I

mean ), u can choose this post without having a second thought, and it

should be ur first choice in the preference list.(This point is my personal

opinion so those feel the other way , need not criticize me).
